How many time zones does Russia have?
Answer
11
Answer
11
Russia has 11 time zones, spanning from UTC+2 in Kaliningrad to UTC+12 in Kamchatka and Chukotka. That makes Russia the country covering the greatest number of officially observed time zones.
The zones run across Europe and Asia and include Moscow Time, Yekaterinburg Time, Omsk Time, Krasnoyarsk Time, Irkutsk Time, Yakutsk Time, Vladivostok Time, Magadan Time, and Kamchatka Time. Kaliningrad and Moscow occupy the two westernmost zones, while the easternmost regions are nine hours ahead of Moscow.
Russia does not currently use seasonal daylight saving time. A major reform in 2011 introduced permanent summer time, but legislation in 2014 moved most regions back by one hour and ended the practice. Another common mix-up is confusing Russia’s 11 official time zones with the larger number of technical identifiers in the IANA time-zone database, which can divide some regions because their historical clock rules differed.
