Mario Kart World’s version 1.8.0 update added 10 Super Mario Kart-inspired courses.
The free update brought courses based on the original 1992 Super Mario Kart to selected modes, including VS Race and Time Trials. These classic layouts were adapted for World rather than simply replacing the game’s modern course roster.
The update also expanded Knockout Tour with new routes and added spectator functionality for multiplayer sessions. It was part of Nintendo’s continuing post-launch support for the Switch 2 racer.
Super Mario Kart originally appeared on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and established the series’ core combination of character racing, drifting and item attacks. World’s retro additions connect the newest entry directly to that beginning, while its open world and 24-racer events represent later developments in the series.
