Bahrain’s national flag has five serration points dividing its white and red fields.
The flag is a red field at the fly with a white band at the hoist. The boundary is formed by five triangular points, traditionally representing the five pillars of Islam. The present design was adopted in 2002, when Bahrain became a constitutional monarchy.
Earlier versions had more points, including a design with 28 serrations. The number was reduced to five in 2002 to give the flag a direct religious symbolism and a cleaner appearance.
Bahrain’s flag is often confused with Qatar’s. Qatar uses a much darker maroon field and nine points, whereas Bahrain uses red and five points. The two designs reflect their shared Gulf region and similar historical flag traditions.
