How many seats does the Lamborghini Espada have?

The story behind the answer

The Lamborghini Espada has four seats.

Introduced in 1968, the Espada was designed as a grand touring coupé for carrying four adults rather than as a cramped 2+2 sports car. Its name means “sword” in Spanish, reflecting Lamborghini’s bullfighting-inspired naming tradition. Marcello Gandini created the striking Bertone shape, which combined a long front-engine layout with a spacious cabin and useful luggage area.

The Espada was sold in three main series: Series I from 1968 to 1970, Series II from 1970 to 1972, and Series III from 1972 to 1978. All retained the four-seat configuration while receiving changes to the dashboard, suspension, equipment and exterior details. The car used a front-mounted 3.9-litre V12 derived from the 400 GT’s engine.

A common mix-up is calling the Espada a two-plus-two. That description better fits several other Lamborghini grand tourers, while the Espada is conventionally identified as a genuine four-seat GT. Lamborghini produced roughly 1,200 examples during its decade-long run.
