The Real World produced 33 seasons. MTV's pioneering reality series began in 1992 and concluded its original television run after 32 seasons before returning for its 33rd and final season on Facebook Watch in 2019.
Created by Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray, the show placed strangers in a shared residence and followed their relationships, disagreements, and personal stories. Its first season, set in New York City, helped establish the observational reality format that later became a television staple.
The season count can cause confusion because the series changed networks near the end of its run. It aired on MTV from 1992 to 2017, then moved to Facebook Watch for The Real World: Atlanta. That digital season still counts as season 33, bringing the series total to 33 rather than 30, 35, or another rounded estimate. The franchise also helped supply contestants for The Challenge.
