How many Rolls-Royce 10 hp cars were made?

The story behind the answer

Rolls-Royce made 16 cars of the 10 hp model.

The company originally intended to build 20 examples, but production stopped at 16. The 10 hp used a two-cylinder engine, and Rolls-Royce concluded that this configuration was not appropriate for the marque’s future image and engineering ambitions. Production ran from 1904 to 1906, making the model a short-lived but important starting point for the brand.

The 10 hp was sold as a chassis rather than a complete factory-bodied car. Customers arranged for coachbuilders to fit the body, with Barker among the recommended suppliers. Several early cars therefore differed in appearance even though they shared the same basic mechanical design. A few examples survive, including AX 148, a 1905 car in the Science and Industry Museum collection in Manchester. Its small production run helps explain why the 10 hp is now a significant landmark in motoring history.
