How many rings were given to the Dwarf-lords?

The story behind the answer

Seven rings were given to the Dwarf-lords in Tolkien’s account of the Rings of Power. These were known collectively as the Seven Rings, one for each of the seven major kindreds or houses of the Dwarves.

Sauron recovered the rings after the destruction of Eregion and distributed them to Dwarven rulers. Unlike the Nine Rings given to Men, the Seven did not turn their bearers into invisible wraiths or bring them completely under Sauron’s control. Instead, the rings intensified the Dwarves’ natural desire for wealth and treasure.

The seven Dwarven houses included Durin’s Folk, the Firebeards, Broadbeams, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks and Stonefoots. Durin’s Folk also preserved a tradition that their ring had been given directly by the Elven-smiths rather than by Sauron.

By the time of the War of the Ring, dragons had destroyed four of the Seven, while Sauron recovered the other three. The Nine belonged to Men, and the Three belonged to the Elves.
