Sauron gave seven Rings of Power to the Dwarves in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. The distribution is summarized in the verse about the Rings: three for the Elven-kings, seven for the Dwarf-lords, nine for Mortal Men, and one for the Dark Lord.
The Dwarves proved difficult for Sauron to dominate. Their rings intensified their natural desire for wealth, but they did not turn the Dwarves into invisible wraiths as the Nine Rings did with Men. Several Dwarf-rings were destroyed by dragons, while others were recovered by Sauron.
The best-known surviving Dwarf-ring was Thrór’s Ring, which was given to Thrór by his father, Thráin II. Sauron later took it from Thráin after imprisoning him in Dol Guldur.
The number seven is distinct from the total number of Rings of Power. There were nineteen lesser rings made before the One Ring, plus the One Ring itself, making twenty rings central to the traditional count.
