Ten Premier League fixtures were scheduled across the 2026–27 opening weekend.
The first Match Round ran from Friday 21 August through Monday 24 August 2026. One match was played on Friday, five on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday, producing the standard 10-match round for a 20-club league.
The schedule began with Arsenal versus Coventry City and ended with Fulham versus Chelsea. Saturday included five matches, while Sunday featured the two simultaneous 14:00 games followed by Newcastle United versus Liverpool.
A 20-team league normally produces 10 fixtures per match round because every club plays once. The number should not be confused with the season total: the full 2026–27 Premier League campaign was scheduled to contain 380 matches.
