Seven players from each team are on the field during a Quidditch match in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. A team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker.
The Chasers handle the Quaffle and score goals through the opposing team’s three hoops. Beaters use bats to redirect the dangerous Bludgers, while the Keeper defends the hoops. The Seeker searches for the Golden Snitch, whose capture usually ends the match and awards 150 points.
The seven-player structure is easy to confuse with the number of balls used in the game. Quidditch uses one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and one Golden Snitch, making four balls in total. The fictional sport later inspired real-world versions played on foot, but those adaptations use different rules and equipment.
