The total came after a very strong opening. Famitsu reported 782,566 physical copies sold in Japan during the game's first four days, so the later August figure reflects continued retail sales beyond launch week.
Physical sales are not the same as worldwide sales or total software sell-through. Digital purchases and copies bundled with hardware may be reported separately, and regional totals cover different markets.
Mario Kart World was released in Japan and most other regions on June 5, 2025. It was a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2, giving it immediate access to the console's early customer base.
