How many novels make up C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy?
Answer
Three
Answer
Three
C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy consists of three novels.
The series follows philologist Elwin Ransom through science-fiction adventures involving other worlds, alien intelligences, and conflicts over humanity’s moral and spiritual future. Its three books are Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength.
The first novel was published in 1938, the second in 1943, and the third in 1945. Together they combine planetary romance, Christian theology, literary allusion, and criticism of modern ideas about power and scientific progress.
The trilogy is sometimes called the Ransom Trilogy because Ransom is its central character. It is separate from Lewis’s seven-book Chronicles of Narnia and from his single novel Till We Have Faces, so the total should not be confused with the number of books in those other series.
