Entrepreneurs traditionally have three minutes to make their initial pitch on the British show Dragon’s Den.
That opening pitch is designed to give the investors a concise overview of the business. It normally covers the product or service, the amount of money requested, the equity offered, and the company’s financial position. Once the presentation ends, the Dragons ask questions and begin negotiating.
The three-minute limit is one of the programme’s clearest structural rules. It creates pressure for contestants to explain a complicated business quickly, while also giving viewers an immediate sense of the entrepreneur’s preparation and confidence.
The initial pitch should not be confused with the entire appearance. Questioning, valuation discussions and negotiations can continue much longer. The time limit applies to the formal opening presentation, not necessarily to every part of the televised pitch.
