Arnold Palmer won seven major championships. His victories came in the Masters Tournament in 1958, 1960, 1962, and 1964; the U.S. Open in 1960; and The Open Championship in 1961 and 1962.
Palmer’s first major was the 1958 Masters, where he finished one stroke ahead of Doug Ford and Fred Hawkins. His 1960 season was especially memorable: he won both the Masters and U.S. Open, then finished runner-up in The Open. He captured that championship in each of the next two years.
Palmer’s total includes the three traditional major championships he won. He never won the PGA Championship, although he finished runner-up three times. That fact sometimes causes confusion when comparing his record with other members of golf’s 1960s “Big Three,” Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.
Known as “The King,” Palmer also won 62 PGA Tour events and helped make televised golf more accessible and commercially successful. His seven major titles remain central to his legacy, even though his popularity and influence extended far beyond tournament victories.
