The female MUTO in the 2014 film “Godzilla” has eight legs.
She is the larger of the two primary MUTOs in Gareth Edwards’s film and is commonly identified in official and fan reference material as the Eight-Legged MUTO. Her broad, insect-like body and multiple supporting limbs distinguish her visually from the male MUTO, whose forelimbs function as wings.
MUTO stands for “Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism,” the designation used by the fictional Monarch organization. The creatures are ancient parasitic Titans connected to Godzilla’s species and are awakened by radiation and nuclear activity. The female eventually reaches San Francisco, lays eggs, and battles Godzilla before he kills her.
A frequent source of confusion is the male’s winged silhouette and descriptions in some related material. The 2014 film itself presents the female with eight limbs, making “eight” the fair answer to this movie question. Later MonsterVerse material includes other female MUTOs with different appearances, so their anatomy should not automatically be used to describe the 2014 creature.
