How many Lamborghini Diablo cars were built?

The story behind the answer

Lamborghini built 2,903 Diablo cars.

The Diablo was Lamborghini’s flagship V12 sports car from 1990 through 2001, taking over from the Countach and later giving way to the Murciélago. Its total production of 2,903 examples includes the many coupé, roadster and special-edition versions developed during its long model run.

The number is easy to mix up with other Lamborghini production figures. The Gallardo reached 14,022 cars, while the Murciélago totaled 4,099, making those figures plausible-looking but incorrect choices for a Diablo question. The Diablo remained much rarer than either model.

The original Diablo was styled from Marcello Gandini’s design, with Chrysler’s styling center revising the final production appearance after Chrysler acquired a controlling interest in Lamborghini. Later versions expanded the formula with the all-wheel-drive VT, the lightweight SE30, the SV, the open Diablo VT Roadster and the extreme GT and GT-R derivatives.

Across its production life, the Diablo retained Lamborghini’s longitudinal mid-mounted V12 character, while later cars grew more powerful and technically sophisticated.
