How many investors usually sit on the panel in the British TV show Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Five investors usually sit on the panel in the British TV show Dragons' Den.

The five-person panel is the programme’s standard visual and competitive setup. Each dragon independently considers an entrepreneur’s proposal, although the investors can also collaborate, make joint offers or compete with one another for a stake. A pitch may therefore produce one offer, several offers or no investment at all.

The exact identities of the five dragons have changed between series. The original British panel included Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Simon Woodroffe and Doug Richard. Later series introduced other investors, including Deborah Meaden, Theo Paphitis, Kelly Hoppen and Touker Suleyman.

The number should not be confused with the number of entrepreneurs in a pitch or with the number of investors who ultimately make an offer. Guest dragons and panel changes can affect particular episodes, but five is the established standard panel size for the British format.
