The UK television programme Dragons' Den normally arranges five investor seats at its pitch table.
Each investor is known as a Dragon. Entrepreneurs stand before the panel and explain their business, usually stating how much money they want and what percentage of the company they are willing to offer. Any Dragon can ask questions, make an offer or decline to invest.
The five-seat arrangement is a defining visual feature of the British series. It also creates the possibility of competing offers, because more than one Dragon may want a stake in the same business. A pitch can therefore end with one investment, several Dragons joining together, or no deal at all.
The number refers to the standard panel setup, not to every individual who has ever appeared as a guest or replacement Dragon. Panel line-ups change across series, but the familiar format uses five positions.
