There were 13 in-series operas during Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. These musical stories unfolded inside the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, often occupying several episodes or, in some cases, an entire episode.
The operas began with Babysitter Opera and Campsite Opera in 1968. Other productions included Pineapples and Tomatoes, The Uncle of the Monkey, Potato Bugs and Cows, All in the Laundry, Key to Otherland, Windstorm in Bubbleland, Spoon Mountain, A Granddad for Daniel, and A Star for Kitty.
American baritone John Reardon was a frequent participant and helped the residents create and perform the operas. The stories were introduced by Mister Rogers and used music, fantasy, and neighborhood problems to explore ideas such as cooperation, fear, identity, and community.
A common mix-up is counting Josephine the Short-Necked Giraffe, which aired in 1989. It was a play and tribute to Reardon, not one of the 13 in-series operas. The list also refers to productions within the Make-Believe segments, not every song or musical performance on the program.
