The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 produced 662 horsepower. That factory-rated output came from a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 and made the 2013 GT500 the most powerful production Mustang at the time.
The engine, known within Ford as the Trinity V8, was a major upgrade over the previous GT500’s supercharged 5.4-liter V8. Ford increased displacement, fitted a larger supercharger, and strengthened the car’s supporting systems to handle the added performance. The engine’s official SAE-certified rating was 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque.
That power helped the GT500 achieve Ford’s headline performance goal: a top speed above 200 mph. The car also received upgraded brakes, revised suspension hardware, launch control, and electronic stability-control settings. A Performance package added adjustable Bilstein dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
The number is often confused with 650 horsepower because Ford initially projected a minimum figure around that level before certification. Modified Shelby Super Snake cars could produce far more, but those upgrades are not the rating for the standard 2013 Ford Shelby GT500.
