Manchester City scored two goals against Bournemouth in their 2–1 victory on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 26th minute through Marcus Tavernier, leaving Manchester City behind for most of the match at the Etihad Stadium. City then produced a late comeback on Sunday 23 August 2026.
Marc Guéhi equalised with a header six minutes before the end of normal time. Joško Gvardiol then scored the winner in stoppage time, completing City’s two-goal comeback and giving them all three points. The result marked the beginning of Enzo Maresca’s reign as Manchester City manager after Pep Guardiola’s departure.
Rayan Cherki played a decisive role after coming off the bench. He assisted both City goals, first from a corner for Guéhi and then with an intricate pass for Gvardiol. Bournemouth had never led at the Etihad before this match, so their early advantage was a notable part of the game’s storyline even though City ultimately prevailed.
