The PlayStation Classic came with 20 pre-installed games. Sony designed the miniature console as a plug-and-play celebration of the original PlayStation, with the included titles running through the open-source PCSX ReARMed emulator.
The lineup included major PlayStation-era releases such as Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, and Wild Arms. The full roster was announced in October 2018, after Sony had initially revealed only a small selection of games.
The exact lineup varied by region. Eight games differed between the international editions and the Japanese, Taiwanese, and Hong Kong versions. Several international releases also used PAL versions, which could run at 50 Hz instead of the 60 Hz standard familiar to players in North America and parts of Asia.
A common misconception is that the Classic connected to PlayStation Network or supported downloadable additions. It did neither: the game selection was fixed at launch. The console also included two replica wired controllers, an HDMI cable, and a USB cable.
