There are 73 fossils to donate to the museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Fossils appear each day as star-shaped cracks in the ground. The player digs them up with a shovel and takes them to Blathers, the museum curator, for identification. Once identified, a fossil can be donated, sold, displayed, or used as decoration.
The total includes both multi-part dinosaur skeletons and standalone fossils. New Horizons contains 59 pieces belonging to multi-part fossils, forming 21 skeletons, plus 14 standalone fossils such as amber, ammonite, and the australopith. This is why the number can seem higher than the number of complete animals shown in the fossil exhibit.
Players may find duplicate fossils after completing the museum. These duplicates are useful for trading or decorating, while unidentified fossils can also be assessed and sold for Bells. The fossil collection is not seasonal, so players can find every fossil throughout the year.
