How many feature films are in Pixar's Cars trilogy?
Answer
Three
Answer
Three
Pixar's Cars trilogy contains three feature films.
The films are Cars, released in 2006; Cars 2, released in 2011; and Cars 3, released in 2017. Together they follow Lightning McQueen from an ambitious rookie through an international racing adventure and then into a later-career challenge against younger, more advanced competitors.
The three films form the main feature-film series, but the wider Cars franchise includes much more. Pixar produced the Cars Toons short series, including Mater's Tall Tales and Tales from Radiator Springs, as well as the Disney Junior television series Cars on the Road. These shorts and episodes do not count as additional feature films in the trilogy.
The number is sometimes confused because Cars has had several spin-off productions and substantial merchandise. The trilogy label refers specifically to the three theatrical Pixar features centered on the Cars universe. No fourth theatrical Cars feature is part of this original trilogy.
