The national flag of Seychelles has five diagonal bands.
The flag was adopted on 18 June 1996, replacing an earlier design used after the country became independent. Its bands radiate from the lower hoist corner, creating a dynamic pattern of blue, yellow, red, white and green.
The colors are officially associated with the sky and sea, the sun, national unity, social justice and the land. The arrangement is distinctive because the stripes are oblique rather than horizontal or vertical.
Seychelles is an island country in the western Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar. Its flag is sometimes confused with those of other African states using pan-African colors, but its five fan-like diagonal bands make it immediately recognizable.
