Mahatma Gandhi’s 1930 Salt March from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi took 24 days.
Gandhi began the march on 12 March 1930 with 78 selected volunteers. The group traveled on foot from the Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi in Gujarat, arriving on 6 April.
The march covered roughly 390 kilometers and protested the British monopoly and tax on salt. At Dandi, Gandhi symbolically violated the salt law by producing salt from seawater, turning a local issue into a major act of civil disobedience.
The march is often remembered as a single dramatic event, but it also involved public meetings, speeches, growing crowds, and intense international press coverage along the route.
