Bond’s BMW Z8 in The World Is Not Enough has six beverage holders.
The six holders are one of the playful details included in Q’s description of the gadget-equipped roadster. In the film, Q presents the Z8 as a stylish two-seat sports car fitted with advanced equipment, including titanium armor and other countermeasures. The beverage holders are deliberately mundane compared with the car’s spy technology.
The World Is Not Enough, released in 1999, was the nineteenth James Bond film and starred Pierce Brosnan as 007. The BMW Z8 appears as Bond’s vehicle before being dramatically cut in half by a helicopter-mounted saw during the film’s climax.
The Z8 was not merely a fictional prop: BMW introduced the production roadster around the same period. It used a 4.9-litre V8 related to the engine in the E39-generation M5 and became famous for its retro styling. The real car was a two-seat convertible, while several modified replicas were used for dangerous filming sequences.
