How many attempts did it take Mi Hyun Kim to qualify for the LPGA?

The story behind the answer

Mi Hyun Kim needed one attempt to qualify for the LPGA Tour.

Kim was a South Korean professional golfer who turned professional in 1996 and became one of the leading Korean players on the LPGA circuit. Her successful qualification helped launch a major international career rather than representing a brief appearance: she won eight LPGA Tour events and earned more than $8 million in official career prize money.

She was also known by the nickname “The Peanut” because of her small stature, standing about 5 feet 1 inch tall. Despite that, she developed a powerful and highly competitive game and became LPGA Rookie of the Year in 1999.

The number refers to attempts at qualifying for the LPGA Tour, not the number of tournaments she played before winning. Kim’s first LPGA victory came in 1999 at the State Farm Rail Classic, the same season in which she earned rookie honors.
