The 1993 film Jurassic Park won three Academy Awards.
At the 66th Academy Awards, the film received Oscars for Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. These honors recognized the technical work that made Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur adventure so convincing, particularly its groundbreaking combination of animatronics, computer-generated imagery and detailed sound design.
The wins reflected the film’s central production achievement: presenting living dinosaurs as believable creatures. Stan Winston’s practical effects and Dennis Muren’s visual-effects work were especially important, while Gary Rydstrom and the sound teams created distinctive roars, footsteps and environmental sounds.
Jurassic Park was nominated in additional categories but did not win them, including film-related awards outside its three technical victories. A frequent mistake is counting nominations rather than wins, or confusing the film’s Academy Awards with its many Saturn, BAFTA and other honors.
