Guatemala is located on which continent?
Answer
North America
Answer
North America
Guatemala is located in North America. It occupies the northern part of Central America, bordering Mexico to the north and west, Belize to the northeast, and Honduras and El Salvador to the southeast.
The confusion comes from the fact that Central America is often treated as a distinct region in everyday geography. Geographically, however, Central America is the southern portion of the North American continent, forming the land bridge between North and South America. Guatemala is therefore both a Central American country and a country in North America.
Guatemala has coastlines on two bodies of water: the Pacific Ocean to the south and the Caribbean Sea, through the Gulf of Honduras, to the east. Its landscape includes volcanic highlands, tropical lowlands, rainforests, and Lake Atitlán. The country was the heartland of major Maya civilizations, and many Maya communities continue to live there today. Its capital, Guatemala City, is the country’s largest urban center.
