Forever 21 originally focused on women’s fashion.
When Do Won Chang and Jin Sook Chang opened their first Los Angeles shop in 1984, the business—then called Fashion 21—sold inexpensive clothing aimed primarily at women. The early merchandise drew on styles popular in South Korea and in Los Angeles’s garment trade, helping the store attract local Korean American shoppers.
As the company expanded, it became especially known for trendy, low-priced women’s apparel and accessories. That focus helped define Forever 21’s image among teenagers and young adults, even though the retailer later broadened its range to include men’s clothing, children’s merchandise, beauty products, and other categories.
“Originally focused” is important here. Forever 21 was not permanently limited to women’s clothing, and it eventually marketed products across several demographics. The answer describes its initial target, not the full assortment found in its later, much larger stores.
