The Great Pyramid of Giza was the world's tallest human-made structure for about 38 centuries.

Completed during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty, probably in the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, the pyramid originally stood about 146.6 metres (481 feet) high. Its smooth white limestone casing made it even more visually imposing than the weathered stepped core seen today. Erosion and the loss of much of the casing reduced its present height to about 138.5 metres.

The Great Pyramid remained taller than any other known human-made structure until the construction of Lincoln Cathedral's central spire in England, completed in 1311. That means it held the height record for nearly 3,800 years, although the exact dates depend on how the ancient and medieval structures are dated.

It is often confused with the other pyramids at Giza, especially the Pyramid of Khafre, whose remaining casing near its summit can make it appear taller. The Great Pyramid is the largest and oldest of the three main Giza pyramids, and it is the only ancient wonder still substantially surviving.
