Fish-shaped 'Goldfish' crackers are made by which American company?
Answer
Pepperidge Farm
Answer
Pepperidge Farm
Fish-shaped Goldfish crackers are made by Pepperidge Farm.
Pepperidge Farm is an American bakery and snack brand that introduced Goldfish crackers to the United States in 1962. Today, Pepperidge Farm is a division of The Campbell's Company. The crackers are sold as a baked snack in many varieties, including cheese, pretzel, pizza, and original flavors.
The crackers were not originally invented in the United States. Swiss biscuit maker Oscar J. Kambly created the fish-shaped design in 1958 at Kambly, reportedly as a tribute to his wife, who was born under Pisces. Pepperidge Farm founder Margaret Rudkin encountered them while traveling in Switzerland and brought the idea to American consumers.
Cheddar is often treated as the original Goldfish flavor, but it was introduced later, in 1966. The crackers' familiar eye and smile are also newer than the basic fish shape: the smile was added in 1997 and appears on many, though not necessarily every, cracker. “Goldfish” can therefore refer to the brand, while Pepperidge Farm identifies the maker.
