Elton John's 2021 chart-topping single "Cold Heart" was a collaboration with Dua Lipa. More precisely titled "Cold Heart (Pnau remix)," the track combines elements of several earlier Elton John songs with new dance-pop production by the Australian trio Pnau.
Released in August 2021, the song became the lead single from John's collaborative album The Lockdown Sessions. It followed a friendship between John and Lipa that had grown through her Studio 2054 livestream and her appearances at Elton John AIDS Foundation events. The song's bright, animated video helped make the collaboration especially recognizable.
The track draws on material from "Rocket Man," "Sacrifice," "Kiss That Frog" and "Where's the Shoorah?" That medley-like structure is why some listeners mistakenly treat it as a straightforward remake of one older Elton John song. It is instead a new Pnau-produced composition built around samples and interpolated elements from his catalogue.
"Cold Heart" also marked an important chart milestone: it gave John a UK top-10 single in six different decades and became his first UK number one since 2005.
