Cillian Murphy, Damien in "The Wind That Shakes The Barley", played which "Batman Begins" villain?

The story behind the answer

Cillian Murphy played the Scarecrow in Batman Begins. His character was Dr. Jonathan Crane, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who secretly uses fear-inducing chemicals while working with Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Shadows.

Murphy was initially considered for the role of Bruce Wayne, but Christopher Nolan ultimately cast Christian Bale as Batman. Murphy’s audition made such an impression that Nolan offered him the villainous role instead. The character’s comic-book identity is the Scarecrow, one of Batman’s most distinctive psychological enemies.

In the film, Crane uses a hallucinogenic fear toxin to terrify victims and help destabilize Gotham City. His expertise in psychiatry and fear gives the villain a different style from physically powerful Batman opponents: his main weapon is the manipulation of perception.

Murphy’s performance helped make Scarecrow a memorable part of the 2005 film, even though the character is not the story’s final mastermind. Murphy later worked with Nolan in Inception, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer.
