Cardi B’s 2017 breakthrough single that topped the Billboard Hot 100 is titled “Bodak Yellow.”
Released on June 16, 2017, “Bodak Yellow” was Cardi B’s major-label debut single and the lead single from her album Invasion of Privacy. Its confident delivery, sharp lyrics, and memorable “money moves” refrain helped turn the Bronx rapper into a mainstream star.
The song debuted at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 before climbing steadily. It reached number one in October 2017 and stayed there for three consecutive weeks. That achievement made Cardi B the second female rapper to top the chart with a solo song, following Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
The title is also a nod to Kodak Black, whose song “No Flockin” is interpolated in “Bodak Yellow.” The track is sometimes listed with the alternate title “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” but “Bodak Yellow” is the canonical title used for the single.
