Berkshire Hathaway's chairman and CEO since 1965 is which legendary investor?

The story behind the answer

Warren Buffett has been Berkshire Hathaway’s chairman and chief executive officer since 1965.

Buffett began buying shares in the struggling textile company Berkshire Hathaway in the 1960s and eventually transformed it into a diversified holding company. Its businesses and investments have included insurance, railroads, utilities, manufacturing, retail, and large stakes in publicly traded companies.

Berkshire’s insurance operations, especially its ownership of National Indemnity and GEICO, provide capital that Buffett has invested over many decades. This structure helped make Berkshire one of the world’s most closely watched companies and a major participant in market-cap rankings.

Charlie Munger was Buffett’s longtime business partner and Berkshire vice chairman, but he was not the company’s CEO. Munger died in 2023. Buffett announced in 2023 that Greg Abel was expected to succeed him as chief executive.
