Avenger is a character in the Adult Swim cartoon Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.

Avenger is Harvey Birdman’s enormous purple eagle companion and longtime friend. Although he cannot speak in human words, Harvey understands his expressive noises and gestures. In the office, Avenger is often shown helping with practical tasks such as typing dictated letters, filing papers, and acting as Harvey’s unusually large secretary.

The character connects the irreverent Adult Swim comedy to the older Hanna-Barbera cartoon Birdman and the Galaxy Trio, in which Birdman originally appeared as a superhero. Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law reimagined that hero as a hapless lawyer defending or prosecuting familiar Hanna-Barbera characters. Avenger’s silent presence became one of the show’s recurring visual jokes. The series originally aired from 2001 to 2007, with a later special continuing the characters’ story.
