Hulk Hogan teamed with Mr. T against Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff at WrestleMania I in 1985.
The match was the main event of the first WrestleMania, held on March 31, 1985, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Hogan and Mr. T won after Hogan pinned Paul Orndorff.
The bout was designed to combine wrestling with mainstream celebrity appeal. Mr. T was already famous from The A-Team and Rocky III, while Piper was one of WWF’s most prominent villains. Boxer Muhammad Ali also appeared as a special guest referee.
A common mix-up is remembering that Andre the Giant was Hogan’s partner. Andre was involved in WrestleMania I, but he served as Hogan’s corner man rather than competing in the main event. Hogan later faced Andre in the famous WrestleMania III main event in 1987.
