In season 4 of "Stranger Things," Steve Harrington works at the Family Video rental store.
Steve takes the job after Starcourt Mall is destroyed at the end of season 3, eliminating his position at Scoops Ahoy. Robin Buckley, his former coworker from the ice-cream shop, also works at Family Video. Their friendship and comic partnership continue there, even though Steve is much less enthusiastic about movies than Robin.
The video store becomes an important setting in the fourth season. Steve and Robin use it as a base while helping investigate the supernatural events surrounding Vecna and the deaths in Hawkins. Nancy Wheeler and Eddie Munson also become connected to the investigation through the store and its movie-rental culture.
Family Video is a real American video-rental chain, but the show uses it as a fictional Hawkins location. It is not Blockbuster, despite Blockbuster being the better-known rental brand of the era. Steve's employment also fits the series' recurring pattern of placing him in ordinary teenage jobs while he becomes an unlikely protector and investigator.
