At which Oxford college did C.S. Lewis teach English from 1925 to 1954?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis taught English at Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1925 to 1954.

He became a Fellow and tutor at the college in 1925 and remained there for nearly three decades. Magdalen was one of the main settings of his academic career, and its medieval buildings, gardens, and river surroundings became closely associated with his Oxford years.

During this period Lewis wrote literary criticism, fiction, essays, and Christian apologetics. He was also a member of the Inklings, an informal Oxford literary group that included J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. Lewis’s move from Oxford to Cambridge in 1954 followed his appointment to a newly established chair of medieval and Renaissance English.

Magdalen College is sometimes confused with Magdalene College, Cambridge. The names are pronounced differently and refer to separate institutions. Lewis taught at Magdalen in Oxford first, then held his Cambridge professorship at Magdalene College from 1954 until his death.
