At which Oxford college did C.S. Lewis teach and hold a fellowship for most of his Oxford career?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis taught and held a fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford, for most of his Oxford career.

Lewis was elected a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College in 1925. He remained there for nearly three decades, teaching English literature and developing the academic and literary reputation that later made him internationally famous.

His Oxford years included friendships with other writers and scholars, most notably J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. Lewis also hosted meetings of the Inklings, an informal literary discussion group associated with Oxford writers.

Lewis left Oxford for Cambridge University in 1954, when he became the first holder of the newly established chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Magdalene College, Cambridge. The similar names of Magdalen College, Oxford, and Magdalene College, Cambridge, can cause confusion, but the Oxford institution is the one most closely associated with his long teaching career.
