At which New Mexico site did Georgia O'Keeffe often paint and collect bones?
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Georgia O'Keeffe often painted and collected bones at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico.
Ghost Ranch is a dramatic landscape near Abiquiú, known for its colored cliffs, mesas, and broad desert views. O'Keeffe began spending time there in the late 1920s, and the scenery became one of the defining subjects of her New Mexico work.
She painted the ranch’s landscape from different viewpoints and also incorporated animal bones and other found forms into still lifes. The sharp shapes of bones contrasted with the expansive sky and geological formations around her.
Ghost Ranch was not the same place as her Abiquiú home and studio. Both locations mattered to O'Keeffe, but Ghost Ranch was especially associated with the vast landscape imagery that made her New Mexico paintings recognizable.
