Which New York gallery did Alfred Stieglitz open after closing 291 and the Intimate Gallery?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz opened An American Place after closing 291 and the Intimate Gallery.

An American Place was a New York City art gallery that Stieglitz operated from 1929 until his death in 1946. It continued his long effort to support modern American artists and became the principal venue for Georgia O'Keeffe's work during the later part of his career.

The gallery was located at 509 Madison Avenue. O'Keeffe had exhibitions there, and Stieglitz used the space to present paintings, photographs, and other modern works.

The name is sometimes shortened incorrectly to “The American Place.” Its full name, An American Place, is the canonical answer. It should also not be confused with 291, Stieglitz's earlier gallery, or the Intimate Gallery, which he ran between those two ventures.
