Elton John studied at London's Royal Academy of Music as a young musician.

He won a junior scholarship to the institution and attended from 1958 to 1964. His studies gave him a strong classical foundation, including training in piano and music theory, before he developed the distinctive rock and pop style that later made him famous.

The Royal Academy of Music is one of Britain's leading conservatoires. John's connection with it is an important part of his biography because his later stage performances combined formal keyboard ability with flamboyant showmanship and popular songwriting.
