At which Cambridge college did C.S. Lewis hold a teaching fellowship from 1954?

The story behind the answer

From 1954, C.S. Lewis held a teaching fellowship at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he became the university’s first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance English Literature.

Lewis had spent most of his academic career at Oxford before moving to Cambridge. His appointment there gave him a formal professorship and placed him in an institution especially suited to his expertise in medieval and Renaissance texts.

Magdalene College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge. Lewis lived and worked there during the final years of his life, while continuing to write, teach, and correspond with readers.

The college’s name is sometimes confused with Cambridge’s better-known King’s or Trinity Colleges. Lewis’s Cambridge affiliation was specifically Magdalene, whose name is traditionally pronounced “Maudlin.”
