At which Cambridge college did C.S. Lewis hold a professorship from 1954?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis held a professorship at Magdalene College, Cambridge, from 1954. He became the first holder of the Cambridge chair of Medieval and Renaissance English, a position he retained until his death.

Before Cambridge, Lewis had spent nearly three decades teaching at Oxford’s Magdalen College. The similar names often cause confusion: Oxford has Magdalen College, while Cambridge has Magdalene College, with an extra final “e.” They are separate institutions at separate universities.

Lewis continued writing during his Cambridge years, although his health declined toward the end of his life. His Cambridge appointment recognized his scholarly expertise in medieval and Renaissance literature, complementing the popular Christian and imaginative works for which he was already widely known.
