Queen performed their famous 20-minute set at the 1985 charity concert Live Aid.
Live Aid took place on 13 July 1985 as a simultaneous series of concerts at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Organized to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia, the event connected the two main venues through a large international television broadcast.
Queen played at Wembley Stadium in the afternoon. Their set included “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “Hammer to Fall,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Will Rock You,” and “We Are the Champions.” The performance became one of the most celebrated moments of the event and helped reinforce Queen’s reputation as a major stadium act.
The performance is sometimes confused with the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, which was held at Wembley after Mercury’s death. That later event featured the surviving members of Queen with guest vocalists and was not the concert at which the 1985 set occurred.
