Ford Motor Company publicly unveiled the original Mustang at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

The Mustang appeared at Ford’s pavilion in Flushing Meadows, Queens, alongside the company’s broader presentation of modern technology and design. Ford also arranged a major national advertising campaign and introduced the car to dealers around the same period.

The Mustang was marketed as an affordable sporty coupe and convertible. Its long hood, short rear deck, extensive options list, and use of existing Ford components helped create a new market segment often called the pony-car class.
