At the 1999 Golden Globe Awards, “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan was nominated for Best Original Song.
“Reflection” is the character song associated with Mulan’s struggle to reconcile family expectations with her own identity. The film version is performed by Lea Salonga, while Christina Aguilera recorded a pop version for the soundtrack and later released it as a single. The song was written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel.
The nomination is sometimes confused with the Academy Awards. “Reflection” received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song at the 71st Academy Awards, but it did not win. The Golden Globe nomination likewise recognized the song rather than the film’s instrumental score or another musical number.
